Our Story

bowers

We are Kyle and Christina Bowers. We are parents who love the Lord yet are well acquainted with grief. We have experienced the unfortunate loss of a child. We have two sons. Our son, Korey, went home to be with his Savior on November 17th, 2021. It was his 18th birthday. He died as a result of his injuries suffered in a car crash. Korey loved the Lord and loved people. He was a student at a Bible College and planned to serve the Lord as a worship leader and in camp ministry. His older brother, Caleb, is pursuing his dream to be a pilot. For the last fifteen years we have served in full-time Christian ministry. We have been missionaries for over 10 years and served in remote native communities in NW Ontario Canada. Currently, we serve at Frontier School of the Bible, a Bible institute in SE Wyoming. Kyle has taught the Word of God through pastoral ministry and Christina has served in women’s ministry, teaching Bible studies and we both have served in children’s ministry for several years. We have felt the immense grace and comfort that only our Heavenly Father can give through the worship of lament. We have and are learning the prayerful uninvited song of lament and have begun to put a voice to our grief. The Lord has burdened our hearts to be able to help others walk this journey, with endurance through biblical lament, as we wait to reunite with our child and other loved ones who have gone to heaven before us.

Our Purpose

“Grief is not tame – it is vicious. The bible can give a voice to our pain – lament. Lamenting is an uninvited dimension of the Christian life and helps to navigate the wilderness of grief. Lament gives a person permission to vocalize and wrestle with the sorrow instead of rushing to the end and not processing grief. Lamenting is how a person lives between the poles of hard circumstance and trusting in the sovereignty of God. It brings hope to grieving people.”

Our Mission

To help parents who have lost a child find their voices and validation in the wilderness of grief while cultivating a deeper hope in Christ through the discovery and study of biblical lamenting.

Statement of Faith

Our Statement of Faith outlines the core biblical convictions that guide our teaching, ministry, and daily walk with Christ, rooted in Scripture as our final authority.

What We Believe

Lamenting Faith Retreat ministry believes that the following statements are true, according to the Word of God.  Those who attend our retreats are not required to share these beliefs, only to respect the right of the leadership and other attendees to hold and articulate these beliefs.

Biblical Marriage Policy

It is the position of Lamenting Faith Retreat ministry that sexual intimacy outside the bonds of monogamous, heterosexual marriage are prohibited by scripture and therefore contrary to our statement of faith. We believe that upholding these standards in conduct are important to our ministry.
